Great News! Eastron Europe is Now UL Certified for Three Core Products in the Smart Metering Devices

Eastron Europe has recently got certified under UL Certification Directory that guarantees the quality, compliance, and safety of their smart meter monitors.

Understanding the Importance of Smart Meters and Eastron Europe Role in the Industry

The global usage of energy monitoring devices has spiralled, with approximately USD 9.86 billion as an estimated market projection to be achieved by 2033. Their adoption has scaled recently, especially in the UK, with a total of 1,796,000 non-domestic smart meters already installed by the end of 2023. The UK market has around 1,796,000 big and small suppliers in all, and Eastron Europe is a prominent one.

The company has earned a reputation of being a trusted vendor for energy monitoring devices for 20 years.

Eastron Europe is the proud owner of MID and Eichrecht Certifications. These documents distinguish the company as one of the leading providers of industrial and commercial metering solutions in the market.

Now, the company has earned UL certification for three core products and their variants. This certification means that the company’s smart energy meters are compliant with the industry standards in the US.

Elucidating the Relevance of Certifications in Electricity Meter Industry

Despite the massive benefit of using wireless energy monitors, EV chargers with meters, single and three-phase current transformers, and others, the devices have attracted some bad reviews. Inaccurate readings of data privacy concerns are some such examples. What indeed concerns the authorities is the health concern associated with them. Most smart meter monitors are known to emit radiofrequency radiation, aka RFR. Such radiation gets absorbed into human bodies, leading to severe health hazards. Together, each of these wireless power monitors increases the overall RFR density throughout a neighbourhood.

This is where MID, Eichrecht, and UL certifications play a significant role, ensuring that human health is prioritised above all.

MID Certifications: The European Measuring Instruments Directive, also known as MID, ensures uniformity and accuracy across the EU for wireless, DIN rail, and EV charger meters.

The MID is a legal standard for measuring instruments, upholding their reliability of usage in the industry.

UL Certifications: For US smart meters, UL certification, specifically UL 2735, assures that a single-phase meter or a third-phase one has been carefully tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL). This is done to ensure specific safety standards for electric utility meters are met duly. It includes requirements for electric shock, fire, mechanical, and RF emissions. UL certifications confirm that these smart meters are safe for operation. UL is the US equivalent of CE certification.

Eichrecht Certifications: Even though this is not a standard certification for power meters in the UK, Eastron Europe DIN rail meters, like SDM630-EV, are certified under this law. It ensures that consumers are rightfully charged for the electricity they consume, especially for metered EV charging stations.
